Why subscribe?

Because we all die eventually.

The End Files is a weekly newsletter featuring stories about death. Inside each issue, you’ll find news stories, a weekly roundup of notable obituaries, a listing of famous deaths in history, interesting quotes and lots of cemetery- and death-related art.

Why am I focusing on such a topic? Simple: It is one of two things we all have in common (the other is birth). Death is also a topic I’d like to make more accessible. The more we think — and talk — about death, the better prepared we’ll be when the time comes.

Who am I? My name is Jade Walker and I write for a living — mostly about the dead. For the past 30+ years, I’ve worked as a journalist covering national and international affairs (think natural disasters, wars, terror attacks, mass shootings, etc.), mostly on the overnight shift. I’ve also penned more than 1,600 obituaries and co-founded The Society of Professional Obituaries Writers.

Death is my assignment editor.

This newsletter is free to all. However, if you want to support the work that goes into creating each issue, paid subscriptions are only $5/month, or $50/year. Everyone who buys a paid subscription will be automatically entered into a monthly giveaway for books, gift certificates and other prizes.
